The Three Rivers Petroglyph site offers visitors access to some of the Southwest’s most striking petroglyphs within a one-mile hike from the start of the trailhead.  There are over 21,000 petroglyphs scattered over this northern section of the Tularosa Basin.  These rock etchings, which include spirals, humans, animals, and intricate geometric designs, were created by the Mogollon people  between 900 and 1400 AD.
