The Kitchen Mesa hike, set at Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, takes you to an otherworldly destination with white gypsum covering the top of the mesa. This phenomenon resulted when the salt water of the “Western Interior Seaway” evaporated millions of years ago. Portions of the trail are steep and hikers will have to climb up a narrow passage to the mesa top. Once at the top, however, the expansive views of the Cerro Pedernal, Georgia O’Keeffe’s mountain, make the trek truly worthwhile.
Ghost Ranch is currently open seven days a week for Day Hikes. Advance reservation and the purchase of a Day Pass is required. Please contact us at least a week in advance to book a hike there so that we can purchase a Day Pass for you.
