Take our Elk Mountain 4×4 Jeep tour along one of the highest mountain roads in New Mexico.  Drive up to the summit at 11,661 feet above sea level.  Enjoy the stunning 360 degree views from the rugged Truchas Peaks to iconic Hermit Peak.  This 4×4 tour is particularly dramatic during the fall season when the aspens are changing to their glorious golden foliage.

Elk Mountain is located about 2 hours from Santa Fe.  The drive entails being on I-25 for nineteen miles before arriving on paved roads and then moderately challenging dirt roads.

While elk herds do live in the Pecos Wilderness, and we have been fortunate enough to view them on Elk Mountain, they are nocturnal animals.  Their “day” typically starts in the late afternoon – they feed at night – and by early light they start withdraw to densely forested areas to settle down.
